Christine Stead and Melissa Sunderman after 2017 Boston Marathon

Two of Skyline’s own return today after successfully competing in the 121st annual Boston Marathon.  This year’s marathon proved especially special upon retiring Bib #261 in honor of Katherine Switzer.  Katherine was the first woman to compete in the Boston Marathon 50 years ago when women were not allowed to compete.  Registering under an abbreviated name, K.V. Switzer to hide her gender, Katherine was allowed to participate.  Were it not for her, Christine and Melissa would not have been allowed to compete.

Christine (Aidan ’18, Conleth ’20) and Melissa (Blake ’18, Paige ’19) ran most of the race together with finishing times of 3:35:14 and 3:34:14.  Congrats to both of them and Welcome Home!
