Mr. Barkey’s primary role at Ann Arbor Skyline High School is to oversee the administration and operation of the Athletics Department in addition to select duties as Assistant Principal. In his 14 years as an Educator, Mr. Barkey has successfully logged 10 years as a Teacher/Coach (Teaching A.P. US History, Economics, World Religion, Geography and more in the classroom, while also Coaching Varsity Football, Basketball and Freshman Baseball extra-curricularly) and 4 years as a High School Athletic Director. His passion for Educational Athletics and the impact that can be made in the lives of the young people and families who participate is rooted in the core values of Growth for Programs, Purpose for Student-Athletes, and a Team-focused Solidarity within the Skyline Athletics Community.
Mr. Barkey now enters his 4th school year on staff at Ann Arbor Skyline High School, after also holding the Athletic Director position at Chelsea High School (MI) for 1½ years prior to taking over the leadership of the Skyline Eagle Athletic Department. Mr. Barkey holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Cincinnati (2007) and a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences from Michigan State University (2002), where he was also a Quarterback on the Football Team from 1998-2001, for Head Coaches Nick Saban and Bobby Williams. A native of Warren, MI, Mr. Barkey is a 1997 graduate of Warren Woods Tower High School. He and his wife, Samantha, live in Chelsea with their three children (Isabella, 10 yrs. old, Landon, 7 yrs. old, and Elizabeth, 4 yrs. old).
