The Skyline women’s basketball team will be facing Hazel Park tonight in the first meeting ever between the two schools. Hazel Park is in search of their first win. They are coming off a tough loss against Southfield last week.
The Eagles are coming off a split last week with Dearborn Heights Robichaud and Lincoln. One of the Eagles goals against Robichaud was to take over the game in the first quarter and thats exactly what they did. The Eagles jumped out to an 18-2 lead and they never looked back. The final score was 65-28, the most points scored in Skyline women’s basketball history!! Anita Vandermeulen led the Eagles offensive attack with 16 point while Janae Sims chipped in 14 and Syrah Vereen 10.
Lincoln was a different story. The Eagles started slow with Lincoln holding a 30-18 lead at halftime. In the second half, Skyline picked up the defense and cut the lead down to four points. They missed some opportunities and came up short losing 56-44. Janae Sims lead all scorers with 19 points. Syrah Vereen also had a good game with 8 points and 7 rebounds and Allison Young had 5 boards.
Head Coach Keith Wade is impressed with his team five games into the season, but he says they have things to work on. He is impressed with how fast the girls have picked up his new system and the defensive intensity the girls have shown. The things that he feels that his team needs to improve on are all the things young teams have to work on. Handling pressure and keeping their composure.
The Eagles tip off against the Hazel Park Vikings at 7:00 tonight at the Skyline Gym.
