Skyline Men’s Water Polo defeated Chelsea (20-2), Huron (11-6) and Pioneer (12-10) in the District 4 Championships this Friday, Saturday.
Leading the team was James Rozsypal (14 goals, 7 assists), Matteo Procoppe (8 goals, 12 steals), Wilson Noll (6 goals, 7 steals), and Ryan VanderMeulen (4 goals, 4 steals). Duncan Kennedy had 34 saves over the 3 game weekend in goal, serving as the backbone of our defense.
“We put together a solid 3 games this weekend. We are at the point in the season where every game is the most important game of the season, and they kept their cool, played as a team, and this was the first weekend in almost 2 months where we played at full strength with a healthy team.” said Coach Rebecca Godek. “We had a lot of guys step up and fill all sorts of roles beyond just scoring goals. We had a great defensive weekend, we really improved on our drive defense especially and we plan on keeping that going though the upcoming weekend at Regionals.”
Ranked third after a close loss to Okemos last week, Skyline is looking very promising for the State Championships, especially considering their victory over Rockford, who is ranked 1st.
