Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Skyline Swimmers Sign LOI


Senior swimming captain and returning All-American Ryan VanderMeulen signed a national letter of intent to swim for the Ohio State University.  Ryan was Skyline’s first Men’s individual state meet champion, winning the 200 freestyle last year.  Ohio State is excited about Ryan’s potential in not only the 200 freestyle, but the 100 freestyle and 500 freestyle events.

Senior captain Katie Portz recently signed a National Letter of Intent to swim at Texas A & M University in the fall.  Katie is the most decorated athlete at Skyline High School to date.  She has won 12 S.E.C. and 7 state individual and relay titles.  She earned all-state honors in every event she ever swam at the state championships and this year she was named the Michigan Swimmer of the Year after leading her team to the state championship.  Katie currently holds 6 Skyline and 2 state records.  She has been named to the All-America team 14 times in her career.  Katie was also chosen for the Academic All-State and All-America teams.
