Skyline High School
Bedford High School
Skyline recorded their first win of the season Saturday night in a hard fought battle against league rival Bedford. The Eagles got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first on goals less than two minutes apart by Noah Bradburn. His first was assisted by Ryan Van Diepen and Cooper Schmunk at the 5:43 mark, and his second was an unassisted power play goal at the 4:28 mark. Hector Clarke turned away all the shots he faced in the first period.
In the second period, Ryan Wilson gave Skyline a 3-0 lead at 16:22 as he cashed in on a wild play around the net. Lucas Lippert and CJ Bahr added helpers on Wilson’s goal. Clarke once again kept the puck out of the net to give the Eagles a shut out heading into the third.
The final period saw the Bedford team make an amazing come back. With less than five minutes to play, they scored two quick goals one minute and ten seconds apart to make things interesting. The score was suddenly 3-2, and the Kicking Mules were looking for the tying goal. That’s when Cooper Schmunk showed why he wears the “C” and netted an impressive unassisted goal with 2:35 left to give his team a two goal cushion. However, Bedford wasn’t done. With their goalie pulled, they got another goal with only 1:24 left and plenty of time to get the game tying goal. Skyline was able to weather the final moments of the game as Bedford pressed hard, but came up short.
