Game Recap

The Eagles dropped a hard fought game to Saline Tuesday night at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. The final score doesn’t tell the real tale of the game – for much of the night the outcome was up for grabs.

Skyline took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission on a goal by Freshman Noah Bradburn (assisted by defenseman Casey Ketola).

The second period was a tough one for Skyline as the Hornets out scored them 4-2. Bradburn scored his second of the night on an assist by fellow Freshman Lucas Lippert, and Captain Cooper Schmunk put one in assisted by Assistant Captain Ryan Van Diepen. At the end of the period the score was 4-3 in Saline’s favor.

Junior goalkeeper Khegan Harvey stood on his head all night as he made 28 saves, most from in tight or screened.

The third period was a wild affair which saw Skyline get the tying goal with 6:50 left in the game on a goal by Van Diepen (assists by Bradburn and Schmunk). However, the Saline icers came back 1:05 later to regain the lead at 5-4. The Eagles pulled their goalie with 1:20 left in the game to get an extra attacker on the ice, but Saline was able to nab the empty netter with 29.9 seconds. The Hornets put one more in before they were done, making the final 7-4.

Overall the Skyline team played a great game, shaking off the disappointing loss to Jackson three days ago and showing some much needed grit and determination.

The Eagle’s next game is this Friday at the Ice Cube against Pioneer at 5:00 in the Jilik City Tournament. Come cheer them on!
