Eagles JV traveled across town to challenge the Huron River rats to a baseball dual Saturday morning.
Alex Collier started on the mound for the first game with Aidan Stead as catcher. After both sides went down 1-2-3 in the first inning, Aidan started things off in the second with a base hit. After stealing second, Aidan was driven in when Wilkie and Scurlock both batted consecutive doubles to take a 2-0 lead.
Alex proceeded to once again knock down the side 1-2-3 and the Eagles came back in the third to score two more. Helping his own cause, Alex lined a single to center and once again, Wilkie brought him in with another RBI. Scurlock was hit by a pitch and Yeung was able to drive Scurlock in for a 4-0 lead.
For a third and fourth time Alex took down the side to pitch a perfect game. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the rats finally got on base. With a bloop single into center field that got lost in the sun, Huron got a runner on base. The Eagles were able to clean him off base with a line out to the pitcher, and Alex’s shutout remained intact.
In the sixth inning, however, the rats were able to convert a lead-off base hit into their first and only run. In retaliation, Yeung, Brian Goldsmith, and Lasinski all were able to score in the top of the seventh to clinch the win 7-1. Alex Collier, throwing a complete game, left the field with a win.
