In the first round of playoff action on Tuesday night on neutral ice in Trenton, the Eagles sent the Huron River Rats packing when junior Assistant Captain Henry Hescheles scored his second goal of the third period to complete the 10-2 mercy.
The Rats jumped off to an early 2-0 lead before the Eagles were able to cash in on the multitude of chances they were getting. Junior Assistant Captain Isaac Lippert and Sei Nakamura each added a goal and and assist as they combined forces to get Skyline even by the end of the period 2-2.
The Eagles owned the second period as they dominated play, scoring 6 goals in the period. Senior Assistant Captain Noah Bradburn netted his fourth hat trick of the season, assisted by Matt Bahr, Jamie Newton and Zane Myler. Also scoring in the period were senior Jacob Rothenberg (assisted by Nakamura), Captain Ryan Schmunk (assisted by Lippert) and junior Matt Bahr (assisted by Jack Brady and Kotoba Nakamura). Skyine took an 8-2 lead into the third period against the drowning Rats.
The third period was short lived as Hecheles scored his two goals (assisted by Lippert and Rothenberg) to advance the team to the second round. Tommy Letke got the win between the pipes with 11 saves on 13 shots. Skyline finished with 60 shots on net.
The next game is Thursday 2/28 at 5:00 at Kennedy Ice Arena in Trenton against Woodhaven.
