The Eagles played their third game in as many days Saturday night against the Kicking Mules of Bedford, and came away with a 5-3 win despite not playing their best game. Lead by sophomore winger Shea O’Brien, who scored his first career hat trick for Skyline, the Eagles were able to weather their post-championship malaise after beating Gabriel Richard in a tough game the night before.

First period action was uneventful in the goal scoring department until, with just 3:29 left, O’Brien (assisted by CJ Bahr and Ryan Schmunk) scored his first of the night on a scramble around the net. Unfortunately, just over a minute later, Bedford scored their own on a bang-bang play, knotting thew score at 1-1 heading into the second period.

Bedford scored the first goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead, and it took Skyline most of the rest of the period to get back on the board. With just 2:40 left in the period, Ryan VanDiepen (assisted by Schmunk and Henry Hescheles) banged one in to tie it up again 2-2. Then, just 10 seconds later, Isaac Lippert (assisted by CJ Bahr) broke through off the face off and put another, much needed goal in to give Skyline their first lead of the game 3-2.

The third period saw O’Brien (assisted by Luke Lippert & Noah Bradburn) get his second of the night as the Eagles netted a power play goal to make it 4-2. With 8:54 left, Bedford made it a tighter game at 4-3 as they scored to get within a goal of tying things up. The Mules pulled their goalie with a minute left in the game for the extra attacker, but came up on the short end of the stick as O’Brien grabbed a loose puck and sent it into the empty net with just 13 seconds left to cap the scoring at 5-3.

The Eagles’ next game is this Wednesday at 6:30 at the Coliseum against South Lyon. Come cheer your icers on as they are enjoying a very successful season; their record stands at 11-2-0.
