The Eagles improved to 4-0 on the season as they skated past the Dreadnaughts in front of a boisterous student section on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. In their toughest game yet, Skyline was able to prevail in a physical contest that really wasn’t in the bag until C.J. Bahr scored into the open net late in the third period to give the visiting Eagles a comfortable 3-0 lead. Junior assistant captain Luke Lippert (assisted by Zach Roberts and Jake McDevitt) got Skyline on the board with under 2 minutes left in the first period to draw first blood and put the Eagles up 1-0. The second period saw a lot of scoring attempts at both ends, but both goalies were up for the challenge as they kept the puck out of the net, resulting in a scoreless period. The third period proved to be a nail-biter when a questionable penalty shot was awarded to Dexter after a stellar defensive effort by Luke Lippert was deemed to be illegal by the referee. Freshman goalie Tommy Letke came up big as he stoned Dexter forward Alex Mills on the ensuing attempt to keep the Eagles in their precarious 1-0 lead. During the next shift, sophomore Ryan Schmunk scored on a gritty individual effort as he stole the puck out of a scrum in the corner and beat the Dexter goalie high over his right shoulder to give the Eagles a bit of breathing room at 2-0. Late in the period Dexter pulled their goalie for an extra attacker in a desperate attempt to get a goal and give them at chance to climb back into the game. C.J. Bahr (assisted by Isaac Lippert and Luke Lippert) had other plans as he took a feed from I Lippert up the center of the ice and promptly deposited into the back of the net from just inside the Dexter blue line, putting the Eagles up for good 3-0. Tommy Letke earned his second shutout of the season.
