The Eagles made the Pirates of Pinckney walk their own plank on “Pirate Night” as they sailed by them 5-1, sweeping their season series 2-0. One week ago the Eagles mercied the hapless limeys, but Saturday night the Pirates were looking for high seas revenge, and played a much better game.
Despite most of the play being in the Pirates’ zone, Skyline didn’t score until Noah Bradburn (unassisted) scored on the power play with 1:03 left in the first period to put the Eagles up 1-0.
The second period was more productive on the offensive front as the Eagles tallied 3 goals. Sei Nakamura (assisted by Sam Begosso) scored his first career goal for the Eagles to make it 2-0. C.J. Bahr (assisted by Isaac Lippert & Shea O’Brien) followed up with a back door tap-in a little over 2 minutes later to give the Eagles a 3 goal cushion at 3-0. With 5:57 left in the middle period, Bradburn scored his second of the night when Issac Lippert found him open in the high slot – he sent a shot mid-cheese and put the Eagles up 4-0.
The third period saw the teams skate to a 1-1 draw, with each of them exchanging a goal in the final 17 minutes of play. Ryan Schmunk (assisted by Ryan VanDiepen & Bradburn) got Syline’s last goal of the game, making it 5-0. With less than 5 minutes to play in the game, the Pirates ruined Tommy Letke’s bid for a shutout as they converted on a power play to make bring the final score to 5-1.
Skyline (3-0 division record) plays White Division rival, Bedford (0-2 division record) on Monday night at the Coliseum at 8:00.
