The Eagles registered their fourth mercy win of the season, this one against the Pirates of Pinckney. It only took Skyline two periods to administer the 8-0 shellacing, as they improved to 6-1 on the season.
It took the Eagles a while to take flight against the Pirates, only netting two goals in the first period. C.J. Bahr scored his first of three a little less than 6 minutes into the game as he buried a rebound from Sei Nakamura’s shot from the left hash. It took another 6 minutes before Skyline tallied their second goal, this one coming off the stick of Isaac Lippert on a nifty drop pass from big brother Luke during the waning seconds of Skyline’s second power play of the period. The two teams went back to their respective locker rooms with Skyline up 2-0.
The second period saw the Pirates be taken out to sea as they watched the soaring Eagles score 6 unanswered goals while being shut out by freshman goalie Tommy Letke. The bleeding didn’t start until about 10 minutes elapsed in the period, but once the Eagles smelled blood in the water, they made short work of the hapless Pirates. Senior Zach Roberts (assisted by Ryan Schmunk and Ryan VanDiepen) scored to make it 3-0, and the Eagles were off and running. Less than a minute later, junior Noah Bradburn (assisted by Sam Greenberg) found the back of the net on a nice snipe from the top of the left circle. Then the Pirates took a bad penalty resulting in a 5 minute major…that’s when Skyline put the pedal to the metal and finished them off. With 2:53 left in the period, defenseman Matt Bahr (assisted by Bradburn) put in a shot to make it 5-0. Less than a minute later Schmunk (assisted by VanDiepen) scored on a quick shot to make it 6-0. Just 29 seconds later C.J. Bahr (assisted by Shea O’Brien & L Lippert) scored his second of the night to make it 7-0. And finally, with 21 seconds left in the period, C.J. Bahr (assisted by L Lippert) netted his hat trick and put the Pirates out of their misery 8-0.
